Medium and Long Shots

Long Shot

The long shot is the most difficult shot to categorise but what the long shot allows you to do is show the image in life size corresponding to the real distance between the audience and the screen at the cinema for example. What the Long shot consists of is showing the entire body of someone or something. The focus of the camera is on the characters plenty of detail still emerges from the background and you can see this with the 80s style coffins.
Medium Shot

The Medium shot contains a figure from the knees up which is used to show some detail of action. The mediums shot uses a Three Shot but anymore than this then it isn't a Medium shot it is classed as a Long Shot. The background detail on a long shot it minimal probably because the location has been established earlier in the scene. Another variation to the medium shot is the over the shoulder shot which positions the camera behind one figure revealing the other figure and part of the figures back.
