Nature

The last idea that I am going to be doing with photography is Nature so I will be going into Hyde Park near college and taking photos of plants and trees and maybe lakes as well as I have already been there beforehand and had a look at some of the plants that are at Hyde Park.

Graffiti Art

Another one of my ideas is to do Graffiti art in Manchester and going round Manchester looking at the interesting graffiti that is around Manchester thats another one of the ideas that I would like to carry out. These pictures are some of the places around Manchester that I would like to go and take some pictures of the graffiti art and I also would like to go to the Northern Quarters in Manchester to take some pictures because I have seen some interesting graffiti art there as well.

Architecture

One of my idea for Photography is Architecture and these are just some of the buildings that I would like to take pictures of such as the Hilton Hotel in Manchester and the Triangle building in Manchester and I would also like to take some pictures of the national football museum and many other interesting buildings in the town centre.

Risk Assessment and Mind Map and Studio Set Up

This is our Risk Assessment for the studio room which is showing all the risks that we have in the studio at Hyde Clarendon Sixth Form College. There is also a mind map in there showing the risks that need to be taken into account when your working in your work place.

Studio Set Up

It is important to do Risk Assessments when you are doing a studio set up because there are some risks when you are doing a studio set up because you can leaves some wires lying around when you are plugging the camera and other equipment because you can fall over the wires that are on the floor. Another risk when setting up a studio is that you can leave any food or drink near the equipment because there is the risk that you could electrocute yourself if you drop some water on the equipment. Another risk is also no filming from above like on a ladder for example as this is dangerous encase you fall because not only could you hurt yourself there is the risk that you could damage the equipment as well and this is important as well when you are doing a studio set up. As a result of doing a studio set up you need to consider all risks this is just encase something could go wrong when your filming such as wires being left around to water near them. Another Risk to consider when having a studio set up is the noise because if your filming an advert in the class room you don't want there sound of the cameras in your advertisement or the wires of the camera on the advertisement ether.

Exposure Photographs

Here are my exposure photographs that I have taken in Hyde Park during my practices and what exposure does is it creates amazing results when it has being edited in photoshop. By brightening up all the image in photoshop it allows the photographs colours stand out more especially with these two photographs of flowers I took in Hyde Park.

Research Document on Photographers

In this blog I will be looking at Advertising and Portrait photographers. I will also be looking at Fashion Photographers and some of there Photos and Finally I will be looking at Fine Artists and some of the photographers.
Firstly I will be looking at Fashion Photographer and I will be researching into Terry Richardson who is a contemporary photographer also I will be looking at Nick Knight who is a contemporary photographer and Norman Parkinson who is a classic photographer.

Terry Richardson is a Contemporary Photographer and is an american fashion photographer and he has shot campaigns for famous women's perfumes such as Tom ford and most famously Marc Jacobs and he has done many more and Terry has also done lots of work for magazines as well such as Rolling Stone. This is a photo that Terry took of Cara Delevingne and what Terry is most famous for is his grey or white backgrounds that he uses for most of his photos. There hasn't been much lighting used in this photo and it looks like there hasn't been flash used on the camera to take the photo. The clothes that she is wearing in the photo are very simple and nothing to fancy just a black top which blends in with the grey background that Is used in the Photo and she is also wearing some nerd glasses and she has a different pose which is quite a awkward pose with her moving her eyes in a different direction. There isn't a narrative to the photo it looks like a casual photo that Terry has took of cara with no real story to the photograph.

Nick Knight who is a Contemporary Photographer is a British fashion photographer and is a we publisher and has a OBE. Nick Knight is famous for his work on www.showstudio.com which was launched in 2001 with his first music video that he created for the song Pagen Poetry and also in 2011 he was a part of the creation of Lady Gaga's video born this way. Nick has also shot both editorial and advertising projects for massive perfume and aftershave brands such as Calvin Clein and Christian Dior. In this photo that I have found there is not much lighting used to take the photo. The location of the photo is used in a green screen and with the photo of the doll looking like something that could be used in a scary or horror film such as Insidious or Paranormal Activity the photo could have been taken in the set of one of these films. The pose of the doll is a rather normal pose but the doll looks angry. The Narrative story of the doll could be that its ready to scare someone or something.

Norman Parkinson is a celebrated fashion photographer who died aged 67 (21st April-15th February 1990 OBE). Norman parkinson was born in London and learnt his trade at Westminster School London. He began his illustrious career as an apprentice at the court of photographers at a place called Speight and Sons. In the 40s and 50s parkinson revolutionised the world of british photography bringing in his models from the rigid environment into  a far and more dynamic environment and change photography for everyone even some of his photographs he included himself into it. In this Photograph he had taken there is not very much lighting used it seems he has taken the photo outside in somebody's car. There is no colour involved its a black and white photo which doesn't intend to bring out the colours in what the women is wearing. The pose that the women has in this photo is more of a natural pose rather than a models pose she is just trying to look good for the camera rather than trying to look like a model. The narrative to this picture is that she could be on her way to somewhere with her being in a car with which could be her husband in the background.

I will now be investigating and researching some Portrait and Advertising the names of the photographers that I will be researching are David Bailey who is a Classic Photographer. I will also be looking at 2 Contemporary Photographers who are Mario Testino and Rankin

David Royston Bailey is an English portrait photographer who is arguably one of the best portrait photographer in Britain. David Bailey was born in Bradford in East London on the 2nd January 1938 to Herbert Bailey which is a tailors and his wife was a machinist. In 1959 was Davids biggest breakthrough where he was a photographic assistant at the John French Studio and then after this in 1960 he was a official photographer for John Coles Studio and then he was contracted as a fashion photographer. In this photograph there is no lighting used in the background or when the photo has been taken. The pose that she has is awkward because she has one of her hands on her back and she has one on her head its the look of a model pose with the black dress on. There isn't any narrative to the story its like she is doing a photo shot for a big perfume make such as Calvin Clein.

Mario Testino is a peruvian fashion photographer, most of his work has featured in magazines such as Vogue and Vanity Fair where he has took famous photos of celebrities for the front cover such as Morrisey. His career high point came when he was chosen by Diana the princess of wales for her vanity fair photo-shoot in 1997 and ever since this moment he has been regularly been chosen by the royal family. Aaron Hicklin of the observer described him as the worlds most prolific magazine and fashion trade photographer his persistence in shooting Gisele Bundchen is widely credited with elevating her supermodel status. Mario has shot lots of fashion stories for the magazine vogue and most recently he did one for Prince and Catherine Middleton. In this photo that mario had taken of Rosie Huntington Whitley there is no lighting in the photograph its all black and white. The pose that she is using is a models pose with one hand on her hip and one of her hands being on her head and she is pouting as well. There is no narrative story to the photo its a photo-shot for a perfume company or to go into a magazine.

John Rankin Waddell who was born in 1966, He is also known under the working name of Rankin who is a british portrait fashion photographer. Waddell was born in Glasgow and brought up in St Albans, Herefordshire. Waddell studied accounting at university but then realised he had interests elsewhere and dropout and then decided to take up photography at Barnfield University. In 2000 Rankin launched his own magazine Rank he also has published another magazine called Another man and more recently Hunger. In this photo that he took there is lighting used but the photograph itself looks like it has been edited to look like a painting of a woman and there are lots of different colours on there. The location of the photo may be in a tropical country with all the colours on here face such as the Caribbean or maybe Hawaii. The pose that the woman has used in the photograph is a normal pose with her head turned to one side and there isn't any narrative story to the photo.

Finally I will be looking at some Fine Art photographers such as Wolfgang Tilmans and I will be researching into some of his work and photographs and he is a Contemporary photographer. I will also be doing some research into David Hockenys work and again he is another Contemporary photographer. Finally I will be looking Cindy Sherman who again is a Contemporary photographer.

David Hockney was born on the 9th July as an English Painter, draughtsman, printer, stage-maker and photographer. David lives in Kensington London and Hockney also holds to residences in California America and this is where he lived on and off for 30 years. David was an important pop art movement of the 1960s and Hockney is widely considered as the most influential British artists of the 19th Century. In this painting that Hockney has painted he has painted this photo in the daytime and it looks like he has painted this around midday. There are lots of different colours in the painting with all the greenery in the background to the red coat that the person in the painting is wearing. The location of the photo looks like it was painted at one of his homes in California with the pool being there and the really nice and peaceful mountains in the background. The story to the painting looks to be maybe him looking at someone in the pool and just enjoying a nice and peaceful day.

Wolfgang tilmans is a fine art photographer who was born in 1968 and his diverse body of work is distinguished by observation of his surroundings and an ongoing investigation of the photographic mediums foundation. In 2000 Tillman's was the photographer and also the first non-English person to be awarded the Tate annual Turner prize. There is plenty of lighting in this photograph and what it looks to be is his art gallery with some of his work tat has been published and put into an art gallery. There is some colour in there because of all of the photographs that have been put on the wall there. The location and story of the photo is it looks like its an art gallery it could be his for just his work or an art gallery which not only has his work in there it could have other famous fine art photographers such as David Hockney. The story could be that he is taking a photo of his work to show to the world how good it is and to also to Reminisce how far he has come and how well he has done and it could alos be to show how proud he is of his work.

Cindy Sherman who was born on the 19th January 1954 is an american photographer and Film Director and Cindy is best known for her conceptual portraits in 1995 she was a recipient of an Mcarthuer Fellowship. Through a number of different series of work Sherman has sought to raise challenging and important questions about the role and representation of women in society the media and the nature of creation of art. Her photographs include some of the most expensive pictures ever sold and Sherman lives in New York. There is plenty in this photograph that was taken in New york there is plenty of lighting on the women. There is some colour on the photo and cause the women has yellow in her jacket it really comes out in this photo. The location of the photograph is in New York as you can see in the background is the Empire State Building this shows that is in New York. There isn't really a pose in there for the women but this picture is one of the most expensive photos that Cindy Sherman Sold.

Photographs from the below

Photographs from above

The Last part of going out and taking photos we learnt about taking pictures of different buildings and learning about architecture and people take photos of buildings and pictures from above because what it does is offer more scope and the intricate details of the building that you are taking pictures with this building we took picutre of you can see all the lumps in the paint and the patterns in the bricks.

Medium and Long Shots

Long Shot

The long shot is the most difficult shot to categorise but what the long shot allows you to do is show the image in life size corresponding to the real distance between the audience and the screen at the cinema for example. What the Long shot consists of is showing the entire body of someone or something. The focus of the camera is on the characters plenty of detail still emerges from the background and you can see this with the 80s style coffins.
Medium Shot

The Medium shot contains a figure from the knees up which is used to show some detail of action. The mediums shot uses a Three Shot but anymore than this then it isn't a Medium shot it is classed as a Long Shot. The background detail on a long shot it minimal probably because the location has been established earlier in the scene. Another variation to the medium shot is the over the shoulder shot which positions the camera behind one figure revealing the other figure and part of the figures back.

Depth of Field

Depth of Field

With these two photos Me, Mike and Manish wanted to be able to show the Depth of field with a higher aperture and what we did was have one photo which is blurred one of us out in the background and we wanted a photo of us both in focus and we have managed to achieve this using the camera and what these shots allow us to do is have the focus on me and makes me the main object of the photo by lowering the aperture.

Shutter Speed Photography

Shutter Speed

During our time in the park Me, Shaf, Mike, Andy, Conner, Hayden and Manish we all had a discussion on where we are going to take photos and get the best shutter speed photos and we all decided on using the swings, roundabout and running These are some of the best photos that I have taken during my time in Hyde park using the Shutter speed on the camera to get photos of people running and this allows me to get some motion blur on Shaf when he is running through the park and what also benefits me using the shutter speed is it allows me to show from where Shaf started running in the park to where he stopped and the same goes for Manish on the swings the shutter speed allows me to show where he started swinging on the swings to where he stopped by using the shutter speed.

ISO Speed Photography

These are a few of the shots that I have taken while using the ISO speed on the camera and also learning and experimenting how to use the Manuel settings on the camera. The Higher the ISO speed on my camera the more sensitive it is to light that Is why I took my photos in the park cause some of the trees above are able to block out some of the light that is shone on the trees. This also means that I will be able to take photos in dark conditions in the near future and I will take this into account when I am choosing what subject I am going to do in Photography this year. Most Cameras Automatically switch the ISO Speed for you but on the Canon camera that I was using I had to change the ISO Speed manually this helped me a lot while using the camera.

Photographs at a Angle

These are the four best photos that I have taken at an angle the top two are taken at an angle looking down at the ground. The other two photos are took at an angle but one is a close up of leaves on the floor to show the texture of the leaves and the different colours on them during the Autumn time and the other photo is taken at an angle of the walkaway in the park.
