Catalogue and Webpage Photography Research

Advertising
Here is some of my research from the Argos Catalogue which is from the Argos webpage and this is showing the different pictures form the sport section at Argos. What these photographs do is show the how good the product from Argos looks like such as with the Net at the bottom to use to play football and the image has the net in the sunshine and it looks like it was taken in the summer. They have also deducted the price of the nets by 30 pound this could attract customers by putting the product on sale for a while to try and sell it. The same goes for the football with the title being Nike technique football this could attract people to go and buy this football by the title with it being technique this could attract customers by the ball helping your technique when playing football. The product summary could attract customers because it says it perfects your on field footwork and next to the price there is a special offer writing next to the price this can also attract customers.

Architecture Photography
Here is an architectural photography that was taken in a Marie Clarie magazine which sometimes has little advertisements for Thomas Cook and Thomson's holidays and this could be classed as an advertisement from the magazine. The photograph is a Thomas cook advertisement trying to persuade people to book a holiday with Thomas Cook to Greece and Turkey by showing all the Roman Greek ruins on the photograph and one of the best parts of Greece. The only thing that the haven't done is added the price on there but this could turn customers away by if the price is to high to go to Greece.

Fashion Photography
This photograph is fashion photography which is taken from the Marie Claire magazine which is known for advertising lots of fashion times such as women lingerie and women perfumes but they also advertise mens aftershave sometimes aswell.  This certain photograph is a women modelling for Marks and Spencer new women lingerie and what they are trying to do with this is sell there new lingerie to women ready for the turn of spring and summer to possibly get people ready for there holidays with summer being not to far away for people and people will be going on there holidays soon that is also why they are advertising holidays in the magazine as well.

Promotional Photography
This is promotional photography which has been taken from the McDonalds website which is promoting the new burger which is The Grand and what McDonalds are trying to do here is try and bring new customers in to come and try this new burger from McDonalds. What McDonalds do is every 2 months they bring out a new promotional menu such as a christmas one and they bring out an easter menu which will be after The Grand. One thing they don't do McDonalds on the website is show the price of the meal to people they just show what the burger looks like on the menu and they also have a slogan on there as well saying DISCOVER THE GRAND in block capitals to try and catch peoples eye on the McDonalds website.

High Street and Studio Work
This photograph of clothes is for High Street and Studio work and this is taken from a magazine and the high street store these clothes are for John Lewis. I like this photograph because John Lewis is one of the biggest high street stores in the world and they are advertising in the Marie Claire magazine some really smart clothes for the mens section and what this does is brings customers in to John Lewis to come in and buy there mens clothes.

Graffiti Final Photographs and Evaluation

Visual
Here is one of my favourite graffiti photographs and the areas that appear more clearer and sharper are the colours on the wall and the writing on the photograph. There are no highlights and shadows ion the photograph but you can guess the time of day on the photograph because it is very bright the photograph you cant guess the specific time of day for the photograph. The dominant lines on the photograph is the black lines with the writing and the lines in between where the bricks have been laid on the wall. There are no lines that are repeated in the photograph not even the colour is repeated on the wall because there are different shades of purple on the wall and this doesn't create a pattern. I do se some geometric shapes in this picture which are the bricks on the wall which are rectangles. If I could touch the surface on the photograph you would feel all the different lines and textures on the bricks and you would feel bits of lumps on the marker where the writing has been done on the wall. There are a range of tones on this photograph because the further away from the writing the colours are darker whereas the colours are closer to the writing are brighter tones of purple so this will create a contrast between the  colours with it being brighter closer to the writing and the tone being darker further away from the photograph. There has been no cropping or framing used in this photograph and I did attempt to use the rule of thirds to this photograph.

Technical
The type of lighting that is in my photograph is daylight because that was the time of day that the photograph was taken there is no additional lighting used on the camera I used flash on the camera to help being out the lighting and bring out the colour on the writing on the wall. The lens and camera that I used to take my photo was a Cannon 1000D which is a really good camera to use to take high quality photographs. I tried to use different settings on the camera, the setting that I used was the depth of field setting I took one photograph with thus getting on and one with it off and I felt that the photograph with depth of field looked much better. I also haven't used any shutter speed in my photograph such as my motion blur, panning or over or under exposed. The ISO speed for this photograph is 400.  I haven't had to add anything else such as contrast to the photo I didn't think I needed to put this photo into Photoshop because I really liked the photo how it was.

Contextual
The time and day where this photograph was taken was around 10:00am in the morning and this was in Manchester in the Northern Quarter. This is because in the Northern Quarter in Manchester are some of the best graffiti art in Manchester this is why I choose to go to this location and take graffiti photographs. The equipment that was used when I was out taking this photograph was a Cannon 1000D because this was the best camera to use when taking photographs because you are able to get HD quality photographs when using this camera. Similarly to the Nature photographs I wasn't going to consider doing graffiti art at first I was looking at doing Fine arts instead of doing this topic for my final piece for photography and some of the photographers I looked at to get some inspiration when doing Graffiti Photography are Ian Cox who was a male graffiti photographer. I also looked at Mr T who is a french graffiti photographer and his photos inspired me the most of all because they convince with attractive perspectives and interesting colours. What I really like about this photograph are how the colours contrast from being the further away from the photo the darker the colour and the closer to the writing the brighter the colour that colour being purple. The theories of mind with graffiti is that it catches your eye when your out and about and also can be really interesting to look at with all the different colours styles and patterns.

Connections
The connections that I can make with my previous knowledge is that they are similar to ones that I have looked at on the internet although before considering doing graffiti I looked at fine arts but I decided to change my mind and do graffiti. The relationships that I can make with other photographs are that I  have looked at some exhibition on google from different artists and they all inspired me to take similar photos and I have also looked at the photographers work who I researched into which was Ian Cox and Mr T. The views that this image gives is that it shows how different graffiti can look on the wall when you go into greater depths with it and go and explore. Looking at different photos has inspired me into taking these photographs and this has developed my work even further and when taking these photographs because I have taken in consideration all the different colours and all the different surroundings in the photos. What I have learnt from taking photos graffiti is that it can be really interesting to look at and is also very eye catching when being looked at on the wall and makes Manchester a more interesting place.

Visual
Here is one of my favourite graffiti photographs and the areas that appear more clearer and sharper are the colours on the wall and the body of the man on the wall in the photograph. There are no highlights and shadows in the photograph but you can guess the time of day on the photograph because it is very bright the photograph you cant guess the specific time of day for the photograph. The dominant lines on the photograph is the black lines going around the persons body and the lines in between where the bricks have been laid on the wall. There are no lines that are repeated in the photograph not even the colour is repeated on the wall because there are different shades of purple on the wall and this doesn't create a pattern. I don't see any geometric shapes on there or and organic shapes because these are graffiti photographs and there are no objects that appear 3 dimensional so this will mean that no effect is created. If I could touch the surface on the photograph you would feel all the different lines and textures on the bricks and you would feel bits of lumps on the mans body where the writing has been done on the wall and you also be able to rip some of the dried paint on the wall. There has been no cropping or framing used in this photograph and I did attempt to use the rule of thirds to this photograph.

The ISO speed setting for this photograph is 100.  I haven't had to add anything else such as contrast to the photo. Visual
Here is my last favourite photograph from graffiti and the areas that appear more clearer and sharper are the colours on the wall and the main image in the photograph being the suggestion box in the photograph. There are no highlights and shadows in the photograph but you can guess the time of day on the photograph because it is very bright the photograph you cant guess the specific time of day for the photograph. The dominant lines on the photograph is the black lines going around the persons hand and the different colours of writing behind the box . There are no lines that are repeated in the photograph not even the colour isn't repeated on the wall because there are different shades of blue, red, green, yellow and brown. Architecture Final Photographs and Evaluation

Visual
This is one of my three favourite photographs that I took for my Architecture portfolio and the areas that appear the most sharpest are the front of the building saying National Football Museum at the top. There are highlights and shadows in this photograph as you can see it on the glass the reflection of other buildings and you can guess the time of the day because you can see the blue skies over the building. The dominant lines on the photograph is the big square lines on the building and the writing and the writing on the front of the building that is very dominant in the photograph as well. There are lines that are repeated on the front of the building such as the squares that are on the building they are all repeated and some of the colours are repeated as well on the front of the building. I do see some geometric shapes as the whole building is a geometric shape but there are no objects that appear 3 dimensional so this will mean that no effect is created. If I could touch the surface on the photograph you would feel all the glass on the building with the building being made out of glass and you would feel the material of the squares going around the building.

The lens and camera that I used to take my photo was a Cannon 1000D. I attempted to use depth of field I took the photograph once using the death of field and once without depth of field and this is the photogrpah I used without the depth of field setting on as I felt that the photograph would benefit with that setting off although I did experiment with it on. I also haven't used any shutter speed in my photograph such as any motion blur, panning or over or under exposed. The ISO speed for this photograph is 100.  I haven't had to add anything else such as contrast to the photo I didn't think I needed to put this photo into Photoshop because I really liked the photo how it was.

Contextual
The time of day where this photograph was taken was around 11:00am and the location the photograph was taken was in the Manchester City Centre. I Chose to use this location to take this photograph because that is where the building is located in the Manchester City Centre and also because I found the building really interesting to look at. The equipment that I used to take this photograph with was a Cannon 1000D because this is one of the best cameras around to take High Definition photographs. I chose to do architecture because Manchester has lots of different buildings to take pictures of such as the Hilton Hotel building and also the National Football Museum Building. The Architecture photographers that I looked at to get some inspiration to take these photographs were Martha Cooper who is a female urban and architecture photographer and I also looked at some student work on the Manchester Metropolitan University website at some of there work. I also looked at Mr T who is a graffiti photographer but has done some architecture work and his work inspired me the most because they convince people with attractive colours and purposes. What I really like about this photograph is that the way the building is shaped such as it arches at the front of the building then drops down.

Connections
The connections that I can make to me previous knowledge are that the buildings that I have taken pictures of are similar to the ones students have taken pictures of on the Manchester Metropolitan University website. The relationships that I can make with other photographers are that Martha Coopers and Mr Ts work are quite similar to each other and what inspired me to do architecture the most was all the work done on the Manchester Metropolitan University website by students who do photography at university because they are students with similar interests in photography to me and I found there work very inspiring and that’s why I pursued doing architecture photography. The views that this photograph gives is that all buildings are different shapes and sizes and when you look close at then you can see lots of different patterns on them. What I have learnt from doing architecture photography is that buildings such as the national football museum look very different in person to what they look like in real life they look a lot bigger to what they are on photographs as well. Looking at different photographs has inspired me into taking these photographs and this has developed my work even further and when I was taking these photographs I took into consideration all the different colours and the surroundings. What I have learnt from taking these photographs is that no building is the same they are all different from each other such as the patterns, shapes and sizes and all buildings are different to look at.

Visual
This is one of my three favourite photographs that I took for my Architecture portfolio and the areas that appear most sharpest are all of the photograph none of it appears more sharper as it is my favourite photograph I had taken. There are highlights and shadows in this photograph as you can see in the left hand corner there are shadows of the building across the road from it. There are lines that are repeated as you can see with all the windows on the building they are all the same for each separate building on the picture. I do see some geometric shapes on the building by looking at the windows on the building the top square is always smaller than the one on the bottom of the window. If I could touch the surface on the photograph you would feel all the glass and bricks on the building. There has been no cropping or framing used in this photograph and I did attempt to use the rule of thirds to this photograph.

The ISO speed setting for this photograph is a 100 as well.  I haven't had to add anything else such as contrast to the photo I didn't think I needed to put this photo into Photoshop because I really liked the photo how it was.

Connections

This is one of my three favourite photographs that I took for my Architecture portfolio and the areas that appear most sharpest are all the different signs and symbols that are on the photograph such as the Odeon one and the Print works sign at the top. There are shadows and highlights on the printworks building as it is show with the shadow just below the I love MCR sign to the right. There are dominant lines in this photo with all the restaurant names and the Odeon cinema sign at the top they are the dominant line for the print works. There are lines that are repeated on the windows of the photograph with there being a line splitting the window in the middle. I do see some geometric shapes on the building with the designs of the restaurant names these are geometric shapes. If I could touch the surface on the photograph you would feel all the glass and bricks on the building. There has been no cropping or framing used in this photograph.

When I was doing my research into photographers I looked at doing fashion photography instead of architecture but I then looked at some university work in Manchester on Architecture and this inspired me into doing architecture instead because Manchester is on of the most interesting cities in the world and I felt that It would be better to do Architecture than Fashion. My main inspiration for doing Architecture was looking on Manchester Metropolitan University website at all there photography work I looked at both Fashion and Architecture and thought that Architecture would be the best idea to do for my final piece for photography and this enabled me to explore into Manchester and go and look at buildings that I hadn't taken an interest in such as the the printworks.

Connections
The connections that I can make with my previous knowledge is that they are similar to ones that I have looked at on the internet although before considering doing Architecture I looked at portrait photographs but I decided to change my mind and do Architecture. Also what I have learnt from looking at buildings is how different they look close up top how they look like on a photograph as the patterns on the buildings come out when you look close up and with this photograph how the different signs and symbols on the building makes the building more eye catching and interesting. Looking at different photos has inspired me into taking these photographs and this has developed my work even further and when taking these photographs because I have taken in consideration all the different colours and all the different surroundings in the photos. What I have learnt from taking this photograph looking at buildings in pictures is completely different to looking at them close up and one thing I regret with this photograph is not taking it during the night time as the printoworks building looks a lot better at night then what it does in this photograph.

Nature Final Photographs and Evaluation

Visual
On my final photographs I went to hyde park to take all my photographs and these 3 were the best photos that I have taken. This photograph is a photo of the floor in hyde park showing all the leaves that have fallen from tree above during the Autumn time. The areas that appear to be more focused are the leaves right in front of the camera because what I attempted to do whilst taking the photograph was show all the different patterns on the leaves and the leaves at the front of the picture appear more sharper and more focused than the ones further on in the photograph. You are able to guess the time of day as to when the photograph was taken and in the distance of the photograph you can see blue sky which shows that the photograph was taken during the day time and this also shows that there is natural day light in the photograph. The objects that is in the photograph because it is showing all the different patterns in the leaves that have fell from the tree during Autumn time and this will also mean that the objects are repeated in the photograph and this also creates a pattern because some of the patterns on the leaves are the same. There are organic shapes on the leaves which are lines going in different directions on the leaves and some are not just straight lines and there are different numbers of lines on the leaves on the floor. The image of all the leaves that are on the floor isnt dimensional. There is depth in my photograph because there is just a pavement that carries on going full of leaves and there are trees in the background as well. If you touched the surface of the photograph you would feel all the different patterns and texture on the leaves. There are different tones from dark to light all the darkness in the photo is all the leaves that are all dark colours such as brown and black from the autumn.

Technical
The type of lighting that is in my photograph is daylight because that was the time of day that the photograph was taken there is no additional lighting used on the camera I used flash on the camera to help being out the lighting and bring out the colour on the leaves. The lens and camera that I used to take my photo was a Cannon 1000D. I have used the depth of field in this photograph to blur out some of the leaves that are further on in the photo and some of the trees in the background to bring out some of the patterns in the leaves and show the texture in the leaves as well I also haven't used any shutter speed in my photograph such as my motion blur, panning or over or under exposed. The ISO setting for this photograph is  200. I haven't had to add anything else such as contrast to the photo I didn't think I needed to put this photo into Photoshop because I really liked the photo how it was.

Contextual
The place and time that this photograph was taken was around 10am in the morning and it was local I had taken all my nature photographs in Hyde park because it was a really nice park to take photographs and there were some really nice nature and plants in that park and I thought I could take some really nice photographs in Hyde park. The tools and equipment that were used whilst I was taking these photographs were a Cannon 100D because I thought that this camera would be the best one to take pictures on in HD quality. Firstly I was planning on doing fashion photography as well as architecture and graffiti and the photographers I researched was Nick Parkinson, Nick Knight and David Royston they were my inspiration for doing fashion photography and I looked at some of there exhibitions and some photographs on the internet but in the end I changed my mind and decided that It would be better if I chose to do nature photograph. What I feel when I look at this certain image is that it brings out a lot of different patterns in the leaves when its Autumn and also different textures on the leaves and this brings out the colours as well because some of the leaves were black and some were brown. The theories of mind are because it is nature and its a forest this could symbolise freedom to animals and insects also another theory could be that with it being a park this could symbolise peace and quiet a place to go and just relax and forget about everything.

Connections
The connections that I can make with my previous knowledge is that they are similar to ones that I have looked at on the internet although before considering doing nature I looked at fashion but I decided to change my mind and do nature. The relationships that I can make with other photographs are that I  have looked at some exhibition on google from different artists and they all inspired me to take similar photos. The views that this image gives is that it shows how different leaves look when they are close up in the Autumn and all the photographs that I have taken may inspire other people to take photographs of nature. Looking at different photos has inspired me into taking these photographs and this has developed my work even further and when taking these photographs because I have taken in consideration all the different colours and all the different surroundings in the photos. What I have learnt from taking photos of nature is that nature can be very interesting when taking pictures during the Autumn time and you can see all the different patterns on the leaves which is what interests me the most.

Visual
The area that appear clearer and sharper are the grass further on in the background and all the trees in the background as I wanted to take a different approach when taking this photograph to my other one with all the leaves blurred out and showing more of the trees and the grass. You can guess the time of day with this photograph because you can see the clear blue sky in the distance behind the trees in Hyde park and there is natural light in the photograph and there has been no editing to suggest there is ant artificial lighting in this particular photograph. The lines that are dominant in the image are the different strands and lengths of grass all stand out and they are straight and curved lines this photograph is to show all the different textures in the grass and with the leaves just sitting on top you can see some of the texture in there. There is repetition in this photograph with all the leaves that are in there with some being the same colours but no pattern is created because they are all not in line there are some the same colours but are not in line with each other. There are no geometric shapes in this photograph but there are organic shapes in the photograph of leaves that are on top of the gras there are also trees in the background and they relate to each other because leaves, trees and grass are all part of nature that is how they relate to each other. If you touched the surface of the photograph you would feel all the different patterns and texture on the leaves and all the different patterns that are on the grass. There was no cropping or framing in this photograph but I did use the rule of thirds to create a better image. The ISO speed setting is 150.

Technical
The type of lighting that is in my photograph is daylight because that was the time of day that the photograph was taken there is no additional lighting used on the camera I used flash on the camera to help being out the lighting and bring out the colour on the leaves and grass.  The lens and camera that I used to take my photo was a Cannon 1000D. I have used the depth of field in this photograph to blur out some of the grass and leaves and bring more of the background into the photo. I also haven't used any shutter speed in my photograph such as my motion blur, panning or over or under exposed. I haven't used any ISO speed in this photograph because I felt that the photo would benefit with light being shone on the photograph rather than being blocked out and I didn't need to add any ISO to this photograph ether and I haven't had to add anything else such as contrast to the photo I didn't think I needed to put this photo into Photoshop because I really liked the photo how it looked.

Contextual
The place and time that this photograph was taken was local and around 10:30am in the morning and it was local I had taken all my nature photographs in Hyde park because it was a really nice park to take photographs and there were some really nice nature and plants in that park and I thought that Hyde Park would be a huge benefit if I had taken some photographs in that park. The tools and equipment that were used whilst I was taking these photographs were a Cannon 100D because I thought that this camera would be the best one to take pictures on in HD quality. Firstly I was planning on doing fashion photography as well as architecture and graffiti and the photographers I researched was Nick Parkinson, Nick Knight and David Royston they were my inspiration for doing fashion photography and I looked at some of there exhibitions and some photographs on the internet but in the end I changed my mind and decided that It would be better if I chose to do nature photography.

Conceptual
The connections that I can make with my previous knowledge is that they are similar to ones that I have looked at on the internet although before considering doing nature I looked at fashion but I decided to change my mind and do nature. The relationships that I can make with other photographs are that I  have looked at some exhibition on google from different artists and they all inspired me to take similar photos. The ideas and views that this photograph can help communicate are that it shows that nature is a peaceful place and it also shows to people that how different grass, leaves and trees all look like close up on a camera.

These are the 3 photos that I will be using for my Nature Portfolio because I really like the close ups and all the texture and patterns in the photographs. I had the idea to edit up all of my photographs in photoshop but because of how much I liked the photographs I decided to do no editing on them.

Nature

The last idea that I am going to be doing with photography is Nature so I will be going into Hyde Park near college and taking photos of plants and trees and maybe lakes as well as I have already been there beforehand and had a look at some of the plants that are at Hyde Park.
